Before setting out on the march we visited the Upper Primary and Lower Primary Schools at Chare. The Sangtams like the Changs have no readers in their own language although a Primer and First Reader are at present in the press. I enjoyed the notes of the school inspector. In spite of hints that he should write his notes in Ao, he continues to write in English. I was interested to see that 'present school facility is quite good'. 'All required registers are keeping properly'. 'Routine is made properly and benches and desks are improving'. But 'Boys should be more active and cleaned', 'pronunciation should try to improve and pupils should speak out with sufficient voice at the time of reading'. 'Text books and exercise books should be kept carefully and should not write down upon them unnecessary writings'. 'Story writing and dictation should try to improve'. 'Boys should try to learn the application of punctuation'. However 'English is doing well'. 'In Handicraft they have done some useful work such as Morah and should encourage for more work'. But there is no playground at the school. 'Immediate action for the same is to be taken otherwise there can be no game at all without which a school cannot stand'. This lucid note should certainly stimulate improvement. |
