text: The Sangtams seem particularly fond of animals and every house was full of hens with their broods, cats, dogs and new-born pups. The dogs are kept for hunting and are particularly useful for starting up wild boar. They are not the cowed pariahs of the plains but friends of the family, and as we ate roast pork we had to drive them away from our bowls. They all seem to have enormous sharp claws,
