text: | We visited the house of Chambesi, a young interpreter with a pretty wife. He had a fine carved panel across his house-front portraying mithan heads, daos, digging tools and pipes. On enquiring why pipes (130) should be there, we were told that only Sangtam men who have taken a head can smoke metal pipes. |
