text: At 8 o'clock we left Kohima. Our company consisted apart from J.P. Mills and myself of Thevoni the head interpreter for the Eastern Angami. A chubby man about 35 years old with a cheerful round face dressed with a dark loin cloth, a red waistcoat and a white cloak with black stripes. Furthermore three other Angami, our servants and two sepoys for the ponies. In addition we had eight carriers, also Eastern Angami, who were earning a bit of money this way on their return trip home. One carrier gets 8 annas per day. For a pony we pay 1 rupee.
