Around five o'clock we approached the new Dikhu bridge which spans the river at a narrow passage where it speeds along rapidly downwards in whirlpools. Across on the other side is a bungalow. Here I rest and eat my sandwiches. (129) In the meantime the pony arrives sent by Mr Castle. Now it goes up on a narrow overgrown trail until we reach the low ridge where the Dikhu Bridge pass meets the trail between Kongnyu and Wakching. I now push forward on familiar ways towards Borjan in great heat and I arrive there after three. In the evening we listen to the radio and hear about the military coup in Spain. Under a pile of letters I also find a note from Clarke in Cambridge with an advice of 30 pounds for collecting. |
