Then I went to the Bala morung with my companions and I was told about quite a few new aspects of the morung relationships to each other. Bala and Balang do not intermarry nor do The-phong and Au-kheang which also form an exogamous unit. The Ang morung can establish marriages with all four morungs and in addition men from an Ang clan can marry Ang girls from other villages. Otherwise the clans themselves are also exogamous, that means that the Metahu man of the Balang morung may not marry a Metahu girl of the The-phong morung. Strangely enough the Shung-ta-tu clan of the Bala morung also does not marry a member of the The-phong's Metahu clan. The Ang morung once gave an Ang to the Balang morung, that is why it now has an Ang-nok-phong clan. The men of Ang-nok-phong can marry girls from Ang clans of all other morungs. |
