One of the young men, he likes to wear a big green cloth, (158) is Dzem-ang, the son of Pong-yong, the original Ang. The story about Pong-yong's removal is beginning to get a bit clearer to me although the essential critical point, that is his fault, is still obscure to me. It happened about twenty five years ago that the Bala morung became increasingly stronger and more powerful and was guilty of all sorts of encroachments. So the other morungs were already rather incensed when a Bala man fell into a game trap while on Ching-tang land and impaled himself on the panjis. The Bala morung now wanted to take revenge on Ching-tang but the other morungs objected. The Bala men were so enraged that they induced men from Yungya to kill a man from the Au-kheang while he worked in the fields. Then the other morungs set fire to the Bala and expelled some of the Bala people who fled to Wanching. |
