feuds between morungs of Totok |
text: |
When I asked about the wife and extended family of the Ang of Shiong, I found out about a remarkable fight between the morungs of one village. The Ang's wife is Pongnio and comes from Choha. His brother's wife is Shongmoi from Totok. In Totok there were three morungs, Mola, Dzie-nong and Ang-dzeang. (178) In a fight about fields a section of the Ang-dzeang people were forced to leave the village. They went to Chinlong and Shiong. After some time the rage of the Mola and Dzie-nong people turned also against some of those families who had stayed in Totok. One Ang-dzeang man was tied to the head stone in front of a morung and was shot, while others, even children were struck down with spears and daos. Their heads, though, were not taken. Only some who had not been part of the original fight were spared and stayed in Totok. The Ang of Totok belonged to the small Ang clan and has little power. Often his orders are not followed. |
