Wakching 15/8/1936. A greater part of this morning was spent measuring the The-phong morung. I made an accurate drawing on a scale 1:100 which included every post and every mortise. The morung is 12.5 metres wide and 28 metres long. In the two dark side chambers along the big central room (189) are four big and eight small platforms where the boys and unmarried men sleep. There is no division by clan or age group but everyone has a particular place to sleep. During my measuring activities which were followed by a crowd of boys, first with astonishment then with interested understanding, I also found out something new. |
