few fish caught; setting off home |
text: |
Only a few of them have gathered any fish. A division of the catch does not take place. Whoever has caught a fish can keep it and those without luck go empty. At a quarter to three Nlamo thinks we had better start home so off we go and little Chinyang is with us again. The narrow path leads along the steep bank and at some parts one has to hold on in order not to slip off. Then it turns a bit deeper into the jungle which here is dark and wildly thriving. Soon it goes steeply uphill (18) then down again, across one of the many small tributaries of the Shinyang. A clearing opens up and across a growth of cotton bushes which now hang full of white fluff like snow flakes one sees a forest of vividly green banana stands framing the river. After much up and down we are hardly higher up than at the beginning. |
