My cold is still not better and hampers my adventurousness. I spent the morning working at my desk. Early in the afternoon I experienced great excitement. My little bird which now happily flutters about on the verandah and almost immediately flies back to safety when one carries it outside, was scared by a movement of mine and flew over the hedge and down the slope. Just because of the hedge I had lost it out of sight immediately and the chance of finding it in the tall grass, bushes and trees of the jungle was zero. But as I knew that it would starve to death I nevertheless went out to search, often wading up to my chest in tall grass and underbrush. After about three quarters of an hour we just happened to see the bird as it was flying from one tree to the other and after some unsuccessful attempts luckily managed to capture it again. It probably was just as desperate as we had been. |
