text: When Ahon showed up in the afternoon I quickly took the opportunity to ask him about black magic in Shiong and Chi. There apparently people are willing to pay a lot for the death of a personal enemy. Over the figure of the victim they first kill a chicken then a pig or a mithan, all of it in the night inside their house and with maximum secrecy. The figure which is carved without limbs is first stuck with a panji into the eyes, mouth and head, is then speared, injured with a dao, and is finally "shot" with a rifle. Then it is buried under a village path. In order to see if the magic will work an earthenware pot is heated through until it glows on the fire. Then a cock is put in it (41). If he dies in the pot the victim too will die through the magic. If however he can get away out of the pot then the man who is destined to be killed will also escape the magic.
