text: This is also indicated by the fee paid for a leased field for which a man has to pay only Rs. 2 during the first year but Rs. 6 or 8 during the second. Of course during the first year he also does the laborious clearing which is to the owner's advantage if he wants to take over or plant the field again the following year. On the average a household seems to plant two fields, an old one and a new one. (52) The gaonbura Chinyang, for example, has two fields and from the one which he just finished cutting today he brought home twenty big baskets of rice. Yongang too has planted two fields but rich people who can afford to rent a morung gang have more fields. Shankok has planted ten fields this time and in addition he has leased out eleven to various people. Dzemang, or rather his brother's field whose household he lives in, is very far away, not far from Shiong, and from it one has a far view deep into the Sinyang Valley.
