I climbed up the slippery steps to the Wang-dze or Ang morung and was surprised to find a morung which was built so completely differently from what I had seen so far. Instead of the big open front of the Wakching morung (88) here is an entrance under a low roof like in an ordinary house. Carvings are not to be seen at all and there is nothing in the average sized big front room other than a hearth and a few benches. The sleeping chambers are in the middle part and from the passage which leads past them I step into a big hall which is open towards the platform. Here one also finds carved posts and beams as well as the horns of sacrificed buffalo and mithan. In general this morung which is so far from all houses does not give a very inhabited impression. The Wang-dze Ang morung is separated from the drum house by a hollow across which a board is set up as a bridge. The drum is very long but is not different from the ones I'm acquainted with. |
