In several places we see the tracks of elephants and judging by the numerous dung heaps a whole herd must have passed along this way. Chingai says there must be about twenty animals. I am happy not to meet them. Soon after we had left Punkhung the rain had stopped. Now even the sun comes out from behind the clouds. It is quite hot when we go uphill again passed some tall reeds. (99) From a height we see Oting at the end of a moderately sloping mountain ridge. It seems to go down steeply on three sides. Smoke comes from the forest below the village. There the gaonburas are waiting for us. Exactly four hours after our departure from Punkhung we reach them. We hadn't stopped on the way and walking was particularly easy for me. |
