text: Kanching was expecting me with madhu and a chicken while the gaonburas of the almost entirely christian Merankong did not find it necessary to greet me although the coolies were changed in their village. Not far from Chantongia we rested near a spring and the Konyaks cooked their rice. A bit later we saw green pigeons on a tree and I succeeded in shooting one. It was the first game and tasted delicious in the evening. A few minutes later Chingai got one as well.
