text: A small advance troop of twelve men marched in front, then came Mills, Williams and myself with the main troop. Behind us followed Smith in front of the coolies and some men were set in between the separate groups of coolies. A small rearguard finished up the entire column which was more than a mile long. The Assam Rifles are looking quite smart in their shorts, the light blue flannel shirts and the wide rimmed hats. Apart from rifle and bayonet each carries a big curved bush knife
