poisoned arrows and cross bows |
text: |
In the house of one of the gaonburas we were shown some of those poisoned arrows with which Pangsha has promised the receivers. They are short bamboo arrows with barbed brass points. The poison is put on in a thick layer behind these tips and the shaft is nicked so that it breaks off easily and the point with the poison remains in the wound. Only recently the owner shot a wild boar. It did not run 20 metres before it collapsed dead. Our concern was slightly alleviated when several men tried to hit the gable figure of a house with their cross bows and all arrows missed. |
