legends of origin, return to camp |
text: |
When we had arrived we had seen not far from the village (188) a stone lying down which apparently once had stood upright like the menhir of the Konyak. This was the place where Phire-Ahire was formerly situated and where the Sangtam first lived after they had emerged from the earth at Chongliemdi. The occupants they met were supposedly like those of Yacham. These speak Ao but also have a strong Konyak element. Neither the Sangtam, Chang or Ao set up such menhir. Really rather tired we returned to our camp where by now tent and shelters had been set up and where exemplary order prevailed. |
