First we went steeply down into the valley from our camp and crossed the Wokyung stream which carries so little water now that one can balance across it from stone to stone without getting wet. For a while the path went along the water but soon it lead through woods as steeply up as a trail can only be. We then continued with some ups and downs on the slope which abruptly declines into the Langnyu Valley and which is mostly covered by grass and bushes where one could hardly have discovered an enemy at more than ten feet away. Chingmei had cleared two thirds of the path very well so that we advanced relatively quickly. |
