text: Full of enthusiasm the Chingmei people and our coolies throw themselves onto the empty village. Immediately they sight baskets with rice hidden in a ditch which they pour out and try to destroy. Some shots sound, a cow gallops down a slope, tumbles head over heels twice, three times and lies down dead. There a pig is running through the village (244) but already two men are after it, throw their spears and then finish off the squeaking victim with their daos. Little may be gotten from the houses but what can still be found in household articles is thrown out and smashed up. Soon the village is entirely littered with cows, pigs and goats, some of the plunderers even try to cut down banana trees but soon give it up however as there are too many. I see Chingmak as he whacks an innocent rice basket with his dao, all in furious eagerness.
