text: When I look around for Nlamo who should have come with the coolies I cannot find him. Just when I want to enquire after him Naku steps up to us and tells in great excitement that the Chingmei people who came after the last of the coolies had heard some Pangsha men shouting on the way into the camp "cut them off, cut them off!" but had not paid any attention to these calls as they were close together and had no fear of being cut off. But now as Nlamo and two Lhotas are missing and were last seen in the burning village these calls take on a very different meaning.
