Hoping to provoke a chance to shoot through a faked retreat we left Balbahadur with twelve men behind the rampart blocking off the ridge while we ourselves slowly went down the path. (259) Suddenly we see people streaming out of the jungle onto the path below us. They come in a long row from the direction of the main village, one man behind the other, spear in hand and running regularly. They are tiny figures seen from this distance but something in their movement is most impressive. As now long drawn out calls come up to us we are certain that Pangsha is determined to attack. |
