a grave situation, full retreat |

While I am not yet aware of the danger and welcome this rather as the long-awaited opportunity to get the Pangsha men in front of our rifles, Mills and Williams see the situation as very grave. Balbahadur and his people are immediately called back. We swerve to the left now and rush down the steep slope which turns into a ridge going down to the river descending in big steps. The path to Noklak seems to go along this ridge. The Pangsha men who had seen the big column of coolies going up the mountain towards Noklak on the other side of the Langnyu River then realised that we had come only in a small number to burn down the Wenshoye khel and now they wanted to cut us off. |
