text: As we are leaving Chentang, and Mills, Williams and I at the head of the column have already gone some ways from the camp, the long row of coolies suddenly stops and soon we get the news that there are still some loads in the camp for which we are lacking the appropriate number of coolies. How we could have miscalculated like that was not clear, but it looked as though we now would be held up a good while. The only and obvious solution is to hire some Chentang men to carry the remaining load. Of course these have not had breakfast yet and we are already prepared to stay put at the village for some time. (44) Finally however the Chentang coolies only eat a few bites and take a further snack on the way so we then go on without much delay and we climb up the steep mountain behind Chentang, the sun on our backs.
