When we crossed the Dikhu a distant morning mist still lies in the valley and gives the river a mysterious fairytale-like appearance with the trees overhanging far and the water here and there hardly moving, which reflects the sky, branches and people. As our camp had been at the junction of Dikhu and Chimei we had to cross both rivers. Provisional bridges were built from some trunks which were lying across the sluggish and slowly moving Dikhu rather than curving above it. When I looked back from the other side I saw the row of coolies reflected in the water along the full length of the bridge. It was an image of complete charm but the fog and the greyness of the morning made it impossible to photograph it. Slowly we saw the blue coming through in the sky and soon the sun was shining in full strength onto the slope we were climbing. |
