One of them, the oldest of Shankok's clan, carrying the head and several head models made of bamboo and decorated with horns. When they had arrived at the genna place in front of the Ang house they all leaned the bamboo poles against the tree in the midst of the blocks of stone and tied them to it. Then a small upright standing stone was surrounded with leaves and the man who was carrying the head put it in front of it and gave a chick to the Aukheang Niengba, Yonglong. (According to the old custom he is supposed to cut off a piece each from one ear and from the tongue of the head, put them under a flat stone and say "Your parents, your brothers, may they come". (compare notebook 9 p. 40.) But apparently the flat stone had been lost and the piece of head had neither tongue nor ears, but the ritual was fulfilled as completely as possible with the requisites available. |
