I have been lucky with the last two days. Today it is at times pouring with rain and an icy wind is rattling at the doors of the bungalow. In the morning I attempt to get my notes in order but the screaming of the Bengali brats makes this almost impossible. Towards evening some of my Wakching friends assemble at my place and I talk with them about the ceremonies of the last few days and took down several formulas and chants. (see notebook 9 p. 34). Again it became clear how strong the differences are between the spoken language and that of the chants. Many words are completely different. The name for Wakching, for example in chants is Wan-yong-hung. |
