procession to stones - old genna place |
text: |
In the afternoon the men of both morungs move in a long procession to a place outside the village where once stood the house of the Ang of Tanhai but where no bamboo groves thrive. Once Tanhai was a big village supposedly with ten morungs but it was so weakened by constant attacks from Chi (137) that not even the old settlement could be kept, but the people still remember exactly where the old morungs once stood. About half a mile from the village the procession stopped and a raised area next to the path was cleared of undergrowth. Several stones appeared obliquely stuck into the ground and here on the old genna place the ceremony was to take place. |
