When Shopong has finished all Yanlem people burst out into wild warrior's cries, brandish their daos and return to the village. Now the Niengba of the Yanhai, a young man, came up to the stones and did just as Shopong. He put the bamboo sticks across the stones in such a way that they cut across those put up by Shopong at a right angle. Now the stones were covered by an entire lattice-work. Of course the young man had never before done this ceremony and probably had not seen it either, therefore he was slightly helpless and the older men had to tell him all the formulas which caused considerable mirth among those standing around. But finally all was completed and the Yan-hai youth also had their omen read to them by their young Niengba with the help of the split bamboo. |
