I take some time photographing (145) and when I get back to the road the Manipuri driver is already quite impatient. When I look at the car I notice that I have kept the Royal Mail waiting. At first the road goes rather straight along a high dam with dried up rice fields on either side and single straw-roofed farms of Assamese between palm and banana trees. Then the road inclines and it winds along the river in curves which almost make me seasick. Jungle with tall trees from which hang curtains and whole garlands of creepers now frame the road on both sides. Further up the wood gets lighter. Leafy trees, almost European in character, now dominate. |
