killing of Angs of Joboka and Pomau |

Another case of the killing of an Ang by his people happened in Joboka. The Ang of Joboka was a tyrant and wasteful. He kept elephants in the plains and used to ride to the tea plantations with them. (7) This cost the village a lot of money and annoyed his people. His cruelty which must have been pathological in the meantime took on more and more extreme forms. Once he went hunting with a youth to shoot birds. When they were deep in the jungle however he shot the boy without any reason. (The reason supposedly was that the boy had a name similar to the Ang's own which insulted the man's vanity). When he returned to the village he beat the drum and explained that he had killed an enemy. When the people went into the forest they found the dead youth. That brought an end to their patience and they killed the Ang. |

Another Ang who was killed by his subjects was the one from Pomau. The immediate cause was that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with a girl who was working in his fields against all customary decency and in front of his people. His revolted fellow travellers fell upon him and cut him to pieces. Furthermore I took down the list of names of the months in the language of Shiong which gave us initially too many months as some of them have two names. |
