In the meantime the preparations in front of the Wanghemba morung had advanced considerably. A tall bamboo pole had been tied to the small menhir (17) the upper part of which had its leaves left on and a flat basket with a piece of head in it was hanging from it. This pole had been set up already soon after the ceremony for bringing home the head, contrary to the original custom according to which the head should first be hung onto the genna tree outside the village. Really it should have been brought into the village only today, be cleaned and fed with madhu, and put up on the pole in front of the morung, but as this time there was no flesh to get decomposed they had implanted it here right away.
