text: Chinyang also told me (21) that today girls from Tanhai had come to get their legs tattooed (as I found out later, Kongan girls had come as well), but he added immediately that men were not allowed to watch the tattooing process. The women enclose the entire platform with mats. This prohibition does not exist when the small girls are tattooed on the calves of their legs but no man is supposed to see how those girls are tattooed around and above the knees and on their thighs who will soon move into the house of their husbands and generally are already pregnant.
