clearing of the fields; ceremonial rice grown in the 'Wemdzong' |
text: |
Some boys were sitting in front of the Aukheang morung ready to go off to work in the fields. Clearing the fields is still going on although some people already are starting to plant. Just today I saw a boy going to the new fields with a carrying basket full of seed grain into which a few leaves have been stuck. Like the people of Shiong the Wakching people too mark off a small spot on their new fields which is call Wemdzong. On that spot the rice is grown which is used for all ceremonial purposes. (22) Only Yong-mek and the Ang mark off a rather small compartment on their field within the Wemdzong which is called Lishembu. In this, the Lishembu, they plant the first rice at the Lai-bu genna. |
