heavy traffic on the path to Borjan; trade with the plains |
text: |
Then we waited for Smith at the wayside who however did not come for a long time. Traffic on the path to Borjan is heavy now (26) as people from many villages in the unadministered area as well as from Chi, Leangha, Totok, Chongwe and many more now come through Wakching on their way to the plains where they trade. A whole lot of people from other villages are living in Wakching, for example while we were waiting for Smith a man named Chunga came along who some time ago had come to Wakching with his wife from Chi and had built a house in the Angban. Now he moves between Wakching and Borjan, has no fields but lives from trading and all sorts of occasional jobs. His daughter is married to a Wakching man from the Bala. This case is not unique. There are quite a few people who do not work on the fields. |
