text: When Smith still had not arrived by 1p.m., I went back to my bungalow. I met one of the newly tattooed Kongan girls who was accompanied by an old woman, going home cheerfully, however her legs had been tattooed only a small bit above the ankle. Smith only arrived after lunch. There is not much work for him here (27) as the Konyak present their disagreements to the S.D.O. only in the rarest cases. Only the people beyond the border cause difficulties, again and again as they are not administered yet do not have permission to carry on unrestrained warfare.
