sacrifice for the sky god and prayer for rice |
text: |
In the afternoon a tall bamboo pole is set up in front of the Ang house. (58) The Ou-ba of Longkhai, Ghei-nie, a man from the Lukyem clan, tied some genna leaves to it and put two leaves on the ground in front of the pole. He then put some pounded ginger, rice and salt onto these leaves. This is a sacrifice to Hayang as the sky divinity is called here. Then he pours rice beer over the leaves on the pole and says some magic words which are supposed to make that rice will come from everywhere to Longkhai. Later boys of the Wang-ban and Dzing-wun morungs build the frame of a platform in the space before the Ang's house in such a way that the platform was standing above the slope and thus enlarges the available space. |
