As soon as the rain stops however the men appear on the opening again and now form a great circle on the platform. (66) This dance is restrained and consists primarily in an emphasizing through movement of the chorus words whereby the lifting of the daos plays the major role. It is an alternating song and each phrase of the older men is responded to by the boy's chorus with a "Ha, He". With each of these phrases the men articulate the desire that Longkhai may get the better of a certain Ang from a neighbouring village. The name of the Ang is not always spoken but often another name is used. (See Notebook 8 p. 191). |
