Yesterday the Wakching boys found a young woman from the plains along the path who obviously was mentally disturbed and had lost her way in the mountains. They took her to the doctor. I said that it was her fortune that she had not gone unnoticed across the border as there she would have lost her head, and here too this would have happened in the old days, but Dzemang denied this. It always had been considered a sin against Ghawang to kill harmless wanderers and the man who did so would not get old as Ghawang would have become angry with him and would have let him die soon. I see more and more that the belief in Ghawang does have a considerable influence on the life of these people. |
