By about three o'clock I started off towards Namsang Sumniching where I arrived around half past four after a very hot and, towards the end, steeply inclining march. In front of the well kept village gate I noticed that a whole collection of daos, axes, cloth and jewellery were placed on a tree and onto small sticks. (185) Here too two days ago a bad death had occurred. The young men had gone out to fell trees and one young man had been hit by a falling tree. Thereupon the older boys threw away at the village gate all they had with them, even their lengtas. The corpse however was buried without further ceremony right then and there. The head will not be dug up as is usually the case to be brought into the village for some time. |
