We then continued through the village. At the Balang morung Kauffmann too noticed the similarity of the gabled decoration to the Angami house horns, even the eye which there is pierced through is suggested here by a black circle. Finally we came to Chinyang's house. Kauffmann was interested in the plants in his garden. There are chillies, mustard greens, a kind of garlic, a bush which later carries big pink blossoms (23), a bush with smaller purple blossoms, the small fruits of which are also used as a fermentation agent when making madhu. In addition there are banana trees, peach trees, and a tree of the citrus family which has huge round fruit (pomela?) and now is covered with white blossoms of the most beguiling smell. |
