As I need a dobashi for Longkhai, towards evening I went to the village with Metlou to ask Chinyang whether he wants to come along. He had not yet come back from the fields although it already was quite dark and the stars were in the sky. So we first went to Shankok's house. His younger sister and another young girl who had helped on their fields were just then trying to start the fire, (31) otherwise the room was empty, but after a while Shankok's mother arrived. Soon the girls started to pound rice and clearing it off the chaff. In the meantime Liphung returned from the fields and without resting for a moment she immediately started to work at the hearth and put a pot of rice onto the fire which she was fanning vigorously. Now a whole lot of people from Chongwe arrived, some of them still with their carrying baskets, and sat down by the fire without saying much. The last arrivals were Shankok and his brother and some older men of his clan. |
