As we had been told that at night there would be dancing in the morungs we went back to the village after nine o'clock. An almost full moon stood in a virtually cloudless sky but nothing moved in the morungs. In the Thepong there were people asleep in the open hall. Shankok was still up and was dividing (80) the meat of the slaughtered animals with two men of his clan. One leg from the ox and some rib pieces of the pig have been set aside for the husband of his sister, Liphung. He was very tired from the dance which had been especially strenuous due to the heavy load of jewellery and decorations. Furthermore he wanted to be finished with the meat division as he was impatient to get to his girl friend in the Balang. |
