Finally we arrived at Shankok's field house which is very big and has the same roof shape as the village houses. Wealthy people build this kind of a field house every year on one of their fields. Shankok's little brother and his sister are already there and they even have already performed the ceremony (described in Notebook 12 p. 166 following). Today Shankok makes presents of pork and madhu to all the people whose fields border his own. There are five of them. He wraps up the meat here, mostly fat, and his brothers carry it to the neighbouring field houses. (See Notebook 12 p. 169). Soon the people go home today as in the evening and during the night Ghawang will come and take the offerings. Shankok will perform the same ceremony on his other field. |
