In the Ang's house where a lot of people have gathered I have to drink madhu and I am shown a shield-like bronze object which belonged to the ornaments of the Ahom Rajah (119) and found its way to Wanching together with other objects, probably when an Ahom king was seeking refuge there as one tradition has it. Pongyong who himself belongs to the Ang-wan-hu clan insists that the Angs of Wanching once were equal to the Great Angs of Chi and Mon and that there used to be a lot of intermarriage between the Ang families of the three villages. The Angs of Wakching, however, never had the same status. This is explained through the following legend. |
