Today the day was quite rainy and towards two o'clock I went to the Angban to watch the funeral. The Angban did not keep a general genna today but only several young men and the very old ones had stayed in the village, otherwise everyone had gone to the fields. When I arrived Chinkak was carving the coffin in the anteroom of his house. Out of the house came the mourning wail of his wife but otherwise nothing unusual was to be seen. So for the time being I went into the morung which was completely empty, and then into Nieang's house. He said that recently while I was in Borjan a son of one of his brothers had died as well. (156) Then I went back to Chinkak's house with him. |
