For a long time now I have wanted to visit Limnia, the famous conjurer of Wakching, a Hiniu of the first rank. Yongang advised me to take some rice along as is the custom, and to ask Limnia to dream for me. So in the afternoon I went off with Shankok and Yongang and took along some white rice and tea for Limnia. Shankok told me that I should keep a little bit of the rice for myself and scatter it on the floor when I enter the house, then Limnia would certainly see the truth in her dream. From the Thepong morung we climb up to Limnia's home through the narrow corners of small houses. She lives in a very small but quite well kept house at the edge of the village with her second husband (167) Angmoi of Chinglong, and five of her children, two of them are from her first husband and one is the illegitimate son of a Bala man. She as well as her husband and all the children are at home. Red rice is cooking in a small pot over the smouldering fire. Limnia had been sitting on her platform but now she comes into the house. |
