Today the gaonburas told me of their plan of founding a new village together with Kongan. It is supposed to be set up on a place below Kongan in the direction of the former Tanyeang where there once already used to be a village called []. The settlers are supposed to be primarily people from Wakching and Kongan. It is not quite clear why the Wakching people would want to move from the pleasant and healthy height into the heat of the lower piedmonts. Maybe they hope to have better trading possibilities so close to the plains. Apparently there is plenty of land available in the vicinity of the new site. All of Wakching would help with the building and with transporting the possessions of the settlers. There are apparently no complicated founding ceremonies but the new village will need an Ang who will be supplied by Wakching as well as a Thepwangba, Ouwokba, Niengba and a Benba for the Ang. Men of the right clans for these functions have to be found. |
