Unfortunately the weather was very bad again today and I could not take a single photograph. I found out that the people of Chingtang do not only pay tribute to the Thepong morung but also give sections of sacrificed animals to the 'Great Houses' of the Thepong. (See Notebook 14 p. 183). Thepong girls do marry men from Chingtang but rarely do Thepong men take wives from Chingtang. The young men of the Thepong and Oukheang complain much (204) that at the moment there are not enough marriageable girls in the Balang and Bala so they have to marry even unattractive girls while the prettiest girls from Thepong and Oukheang have difficulties finding a husband which is a shame. |
